Identity verification — what to expect

Why Homegrown asks for identity verification, what's required, and what happens if it fails.

Before you can save a deposit account and start receiving payouts, you need to complete identity verification (IDV). This is required by our payment processor — not by Homegrown — and applies to anyone receiving funds on the platform.

What you'll need

  • Legal name (matching what's on your Social Security card and tax filings)

  • Date of birth

  • Last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN)

  • Home address

Sole proprietors can use their own SSN. LLCs and corporations use the EIN of the business plus the SSN of the responsible party.

Why we need this

Identity verification is a federal requirement for any platform that disburses funds. It protects against fraud, money laundering, and identity theft. Homegrown doesn't store your SSN — our payment processor handles verification through Plaid and discards the SSN once it's confirmed. Read more on why we need this info.

How long it takes

Most verifications complete instantly. Occasionally, the system flags an account for manual review — usually because the address or name didn't match standard public records. Manual review takes up to 24 hours.

If verification fails

The most common cause of a verification failure is a name or address mismatch — for example, using a married name on Homegrown when your SSN is still under your maiden name, or entering a P.O. Box instead of a residential address. Re-enter the information exactly as it appears on your tax filings or driver's license.

If it fails twice, message support with your account email. We can review the specific reason flagged by the processor and walk you through next steps.

What you can and can't do before IDV completes

Before IDV: You can build your store, add products, set pickup locations, and accept orders. Funds collected on your behalf are held in a pending balance.

After IDV: You can save your deposit account and receive payouts. Pending funds release into your available balance and follow the standard next-day payout schedule.
