Messaging shoppers from your dashboard

How to send and receive messages with shoppers about their orders directly inside Homegrown.

Vendors and shoppers can message each other directly inside Homegrown about an order β€” no email, no separate texting. Messages live alongside the order, so the full conversation is in one place.

How to message a shopper

  1. Open Orders in your vendor dashboard

  2. Click on the specific order you want to message about

  3. Use the Message panel on the order detail page to type your reply

  4. Hit Send

The shopper sees your message in their order email and inside their Homegrown account. They can reply directly, and their reply lands back on the same order.

How shoppers reach you

Shoppers send the first message from their order page. They might ask about pickup timing, a substitution, dietary questions, or coordinating delivery details. You'll see new messages in your dashboard.

What messages are best for vs. not

Use messages for: order-specific coordination, pickup timing changes, ingredient questions tied to a specific item, allergy notes, special requests for a particular order.

Don't use messages for: general marketing announcements (use a post or social), recurring CSA scheduling outside of order context (use email or text), or sensitive information like addresses or phone numbers that should stay off-platform.

Notifications

You're notified when a shopper sends you a message β€” both via email and in-app. Make sure your notification email is set correctly under Account β†’ Settings so you don't miss messages on active orders.

Message history

All messages are kept tied to their order indefinitely. If you ever need to reference what was discussed about a specific order, open the order and the full message thread is there.
