Drops: sell a limited-time menu

What Drops will be and how to hear when they launch.

A drop is a limited-time menu. You pick what you're making and how many, the pickup day, and when orders open and close. Shoppers order ahead from that menu.

Drops is in the left-hand menu of your Vendor Dashboard, under Sell. It has four tabs: Live, Upcoming, Past and Drafts, plus a Drop products tab.

Make a drop

Open Drops and tap Create a drop. There are 5 steps. Tap Save draft and exit on any step to finish later from the Drafts tab.

  1. Drop details. Give it a name shoppers will see, like "Labor Day Bakery" (required, up to 80 characters). Add a description if you want one (up to 500 characters). Tap Continue to Menu.

  2. Menu. Tap Add from your products to pick from your everyday products and any drop only products you already made. Tap New drop only product to make a new one just for drops. Subscription products aren't listed, because a drop is a one time order. For each item, set the Quantity you're making and the Drop price, which can be different from your everyday price. Limit per order is optional. Use the arrows to set the order shoppers see.

  3. Pickup. Pick one of your locations, one pickup date, and the start and end time. Drops are pickup only. The drop uses the date and times you pick here and ignores the weekly hours, prep time and "how far ahead" settings on that location.

  4. Order window. Set when orders open. For when they close, choose Before the first pickup (a number of hours or days) or At an exact time. Orders have to close before pickup starts, and the whole drop can last at most 6 days, from when orders open to the end of pickup. The screen also shows the time between orders closing and pickup, like "24 hours to prepare." Then choose when the drop shows on your storefront: 7 days before orders open, As soon as I schedule it, or Pick a date. If the open time has already passed, orders open as soon as you schedule.

  5. Review. Check everything before you tap Schedule drop. Once the first order comes in, the menu, prices, quantities, pickup, opening time and storefront date are locked.

A new drop can't overlap one that's already scheduled or live. Ending a drop early frees up that time for the next one.

How shoppers find it

Your drop shows on your storefront at the time you chose in step 4. Shoppers see its name, description, pickup details, how many items are on the menu, and a See the menu button.

Every drop also has its own link. Once the drop is scheduled, copy the link from the drop's page and text it to your regulars or post it. Anyone with the link can see the menu before orders open.

Drops don't send an email or text when orders open, so share the link yourself. After someone orders, they get an order confirmation email with their item, option and pickup window.

When orders open

  • The drop goes live by itself at the open time.

  • Shoppers see how many are left of each item or option. When one runs out, it shows Sold out.

  • Drop items go in their own cart, separate from your everyday products. Items are held in a shopper's cart for 5 minutes. Other shoppers see them as In carts until the hold ends.

  • Your store minimum applies to the drop cart.

  • Drop orders are final sale. Shoppers can't cancel them. If something's wrong, they contact you.

Changing or canceling a drop

Open a drop to see Edit drop, Preview as shopper and Cancel drop. You can edit or cancel a drop until the first order comes in. After that, its menu, prices, quantities, pickup, opening time and storefront date are locked. You can still close orders later or end the drop early.

If you cancel a drop with no orders, it comes off your storefront right away and nobody is charged. A drop that already has orders can't be canceled in one step. If you need to stop one, tap Contact Support at the bottom of the left-hand menu.

Once ordering closes, a drop doesn't reopen and its pickup can't change.

Filling the orders

Drop orders show up in Orders with the rest of your orders. You confirm them, mark them ready and complete them the same way as any order. They're also in Orders under Pick & pack: the pick list adds up what to make by product and option, and the pack list groups orders by pickup spot. See Your pick list and pack list.

After a drop closes, its page shows the orders, sales, and what sold of each item.

Drop products

Products you only sell in drops live on the Drop products tab, where you can also tap New drop product. They never show on your storefront or in the marketplace on their own. They only appear in a drop after you add them to its menu. Your everyday products can go in a drop too.

What drops don't do

  • Delivery. Drops are pickup only.

  • More than one pickup spot or date in the same drop.

  • Email or text your customers when a drop opens.

  • Copy an old drop into a new one. Each drop starts fresh.
